Hey! Hey! Hey! Sweeteners have you ever wondered how fear affects us and questioned if there are things, we can do to completely eliminate fear or at least lessen the control it has on us. I am sure we all have experienced fear at one point or another and it didn’t feel good or it may has even made us miss out on an amazing opportunity. No one wants to voluntarily live in constant fear at any capacity and while it may seem like there is no real way out, there is hope. Sometimes it’s just one way past it and that’s to go through it, but not with our eyes shut but with all parts of our selves fully feeling and being present.

Here are a few things to note about fear. Fear is like our alarm system that can alert us when danger is present and cause our fight or flight senses to be activated. Fear can be our enemy if it is excessive and fear can also be our friend if leveraged properly. Sometimes we must understand that unfortunate situations in the past can cause us to become what I like to call playdough fearful. This means that the fear is created by our own twisting of reality and placing extra emphasis on certain parts that intensify the fear. I reference playdough because it is soft and mushy and can be blended together to create an image, kind of like us creating our reality based on perception.

There have been many times in my life where I felt fear and the intense pressure that it caused in that moment. When beginning Soul Sweet I was very fearful and gave every reason why it was not going to work and really was talking myself out of what God had placed on my heart. That is how fear works it pushes us to want to do the comfortable and less challenging task and talk ourselves out of those that push us out our comfort zone.

Our brain is wired to protect us and when it comes to doing new things that seem scary at the beginning. Our mind gives us every reason we shouldn’t do it out of protection, but when we can push past those fears we can create the most beautiful masterpieces. That is why it is important to be fully present in the moment and take note of our thoughts because these are good indicators to direct us to where our fear is truly steaming from. Overcoming fear within is important and from there it will spread outwardly.

When I was going through my divorce, I was fearful the entire process, not because I was afraid something would happen to me but more so afraid of the imagined outcome that I had concocted in my head. When I began to really take note of my thoughts, I realized that the root cause of my fear was abandonment that I felt at a young age when my parents divorced. I began to tell myself that this is a different situation and that with God I would make it through. I began to disarm my alarm system by telling myself that I have the strength to make it through and remembering the promises of God.

So, Sweeteners if you are going through something and filled with fear, know that you will make it out on the other side. Sometimes the only way to get to the other side of the mountain is to go through a dark cave. Appreciate fear for being your alarm system but take thought to know the code to disarm it if it is set off prematurely.
